Allen: Yes, the name Weregild was taken from the restitution given to a family for stolen property or a slain family member. This name had come upon by a friend of ours after several other ideas were scrapped.
Could you give us a history of Weregild, and how you formed?
Allen: The music and concept that would become Weregild was actually started by myself back in 2005. At that time I was in the Army and deployed in Iraq, but was able to get ahold of some second-hand equipment to keep playing. The music was definitely inspired by feelings of war, but that's only where it started. After several years of writing and no serious line-up to solidify the band, I recruited the help of Kenny Goshgarian (Ex-The Arkham White), Chris Crobar (Led to the Grave) and James Oliver (Endless Decay). All of us were seasoned musicians, good friends and all had a passion for metal. I can say now though, that since the addition of these 3 the music has progressed far beyond my original expectations.
You've created a strong sounding band in a short period of time. Do you think being in different bands makes playing in Weregild easier, or harder?
Allen: Well answering the last question, the music has been in the works for quite some time, but yes, with the band as a whole the music has progressed fairly quickly. I think other projects that all of us have done has increased our playing abilities, but the style we are going for now seemed to flow very naturally for me. I think with the other guys focusing on other projects with much different sounds allows them to bring fresh ideas to Weregild.
Do you have any touring or recording plans in the near future?
Allen: HA, I think touring is setting our expectations a bit high right, especially with some of our members currently playing in multiple projects. But we have a show coming up late June and we are definitely due to hit studio time in the near future. It will probably be a few months before a finished product is put out......but we are anxious to get a solid product down and out there.
If you could do a split album with any band, who would it be?
Allen: Personally, I would have to say Excrecor (NH). We played with those guys at Ralph's Diner during our first Off-Cape show and I was blown away. There are a lot of great bands around but I think as far as their overall studio and live sound combined with all of the dynamics they bring, they would have to be one of my favorites to come out of New England.
Is there anything else you'd like to mention?
Allen: We appreciate all the support we have gotten so far, especially want to throw a big "Thank You" to Chris from MT booking. The scene thrives only by those who support it, thank you for the opportunity Sherk!
