Can you give us a history of Fröst Rot and how you formed?
Sleaze Hound (guitars/backing vocals): Fröst Rot was birthed from speed, grime, beer and Sodom LPs. Filthbringer (bass/vocals) and I met at some shows, some better than others, and over the course of time/beer we got it in our heads to start covering Sodom songs. Then we started writing our own songs, and eventually we wrote four songs and recorded them, at which point Garbage Wrangler (drums) joined the fold to ensure a complete sonic assault, and we wrote/recorded one more song completing our first demo.
Fröst Rot seems to draw a lot of influence from bands like Sodom, Venom, Bathory, and Destruction. Do you think that there's anything specifically about Boston or New England in general that influences people to play black/thrash metal?
Sleaze Hound: Long cold winters probably helps. Also, people in New England are generally negative so we have that going for us.
You recently put out the Rot N' Roll demo tape, which people can get through the Fröst Rot Bandcamp or Caligari Records. Do you have any new recording plans for the near future?
Sleaze Hound: As of right now we're writing new songs for another demo or maybe a split, it will probably be recorded in some dank basement this winter. Keep an eye out for some filthy analog tapes!
Can you tell us about the writing and recording process for Rot N' Roll? The demo sounds raw and aggressive but cohesive and focused at the same time.
Sleaze Hound: The writing process is pretty much rehashing music we like and want to hear. I get that sometimes shit gets old, but for fuck's sake this is Metal and you need good riffs. Some songs are joint efforts, others are done by Filthbringer or just me. We recorded the demo on an old Tascam 4 track direct onto tape, we're all big fans of analog sound with real drums and amps and shit. The recording has to be live because it isn't Protools or a fancy Macbook with 1,000 tracks, so it captures more of the aggression and has a feel of authenticity to it. The first four songs I was playing drums, and then we just layered guitars/bass/vocals on top of it. After Garbage Wrangler joined, he played drums for "Evil Inserter", but it's all the same deal: RAW, FAST AND FILTHY!
If you could put out a split album with any band, who would it be and why?
Sleaze Hound: Probably Sabbat (Japan, not UK!), or maybe Abigail, largely because disco is fuck, and it's a rite of passage to be on one of the absurd amount of splits those guys put out, plus it would lend us legitimacy with the studded jock strap stage garb.
Is there anything else you wanted to add or mention?
Sleaze Hound: Look for live Fröst Rot assaults in the New England area, more analog ROT AND ROLL to come out this year, and please sleaze me.
